The brash, alluring, genre-bending voice of Syria-born, NYC-soaked Boshra Saadi is rekindled -- a flash over the February tundra -- on the mesmerizing single Snowyman, A wild masala of urgent, dark vocals whipped around fiercely tribal beats. The dizzying track comes straight from the intersection of New Wave and post-punk (or maybe nowhere near that, perhaps it’s spinning wildly on a corner of the dance floor all its own). Either way, it’s innovation, with a seductive mystical-lyrical overtone.

This 7-inch from Dither Down features the original mix alongside a slick indie rock-infused re-imagination. New Jersey outfit Delicate Steve bring a stripped down, lonesomely rapturous indie pop to the b-side. On the digital ep, Brooklyn duo Prince Rama’s plains-driftin’ Joy Division-hintin’ wall-of-distortion fades into the dizzy dub of Victor Rice into the glorious electric spasms of Parisian Lazy Flow. All the mixes share the quality of bringing out (each in its own way) the haunting, bewitching lyrics of one of the most exciting emerging artists in the shapeless, sleepless city.
